Kar Megam (Rain Clouds)

THE MAN was tired after a long days work. He looked at the watch, it was 11 PM. He didn't feel like going home, but he left office.

As he parked his flashy car in the garage he noticed the lights on in the living room. He walked into the living room, he saw his wife waiting for him, very furious from her eyes. As he neared the sofa, his wife threw the TV remote on the floor and went up to sleep. He called her name as he picked up the broken pieces. Sigh!

He started thinking: in the past 3 years how many such incidents, how many frustrations given/taken, arguments won/lost, fights fought. It was a bad, but somehow endured all these years. Life was like riding inside a dark tunnel with no light at end. With absolutely no clue where all the problems started, he slept, on the couch.

He woke up to see a bright morning, but a silent house. He guessed 'she left for office' and also dropped the kid. The kid has grown up to ignore me or understand me? He checked the cars, and hers wasn't there. He noticed the retired couple next door, who were sitting on their porch chatting. They have come very far, he thought.

He got into the car and shot out of the gate in the usually quiet street. He checked his phone and it showed 4 missed calls. Got lost in thought, his car swayed a little. The car's modern gizmonics bleeped inside and he pulled into the lane. He took the sharp turn to the coffee shop, the usual stop before office. He didn't realize that he almost hit a bicycle while taking the turn and the rider of the bicycle fell few feet far hitting the lamp pole.

THE BOY got up, injured here & there and cursing the driver. The boy gathered his bag, and the dirtied greeting card. He spent a lot of time choosing the card. The card had words that best conveyed his emotion, the right choice of words. His school was just a few 100 meters away. He looked at his bruises, needed dressing. He was wondering if he would give the card with the bandages he is going to get. He decided to give it by the evening, since the moment was opportune.

He has been mustering courage to propose his love to his sweet heart girl. He has been friends with the girl for few years since he met her at the 10th grade. A point where the boy could no longer control himself or his feelings for the girl. The tranquility from her warmth, burnt his heart like cotton on fire. Her smile chilled his bones, he was consumed, every bit of him, by her.

He left the hospital with bandages on the elbow, forehead, knees & fingers. He looked pathetic. But his friend told him that he would look cute with the card in hand now. He laughed. He planned to go to her home late in the evening, call her out for a minute, give the card and convey his love for her. He would then leave, expect her call next day.

THE MAN looked at his phone again, 7 missed calls and 3 SMS. It was late and he had no mood to go home. He did not know if he hated the home or the situation it was in. The club was getting busy. The young crowd started to pour in. He picked up the keys and left. He was driving aimlessly into the silent night.

His life was a mess, he knew. But how lovely it was, when he got married. The moments they had, the joy they shared. What happened midway? He was not responsible for the situation, he firmly believed. He thought he was not fully understood by anyone. He was descending deeply into his thoughts. He remembered how she captivated him and how he took her by storm. How much they loved each other, and love today was quiescent. Cherished moments, where did they go? why aren't they created? A bleep brought his mind back to the road. But it was too late, when he noticed the wrongly parked car. He turned the wheel abruptly away, only to hit some bicycle. He was in absolute shock.

He got out of the car. The crowd was gathering as he called the ambulance. He looked at the person he hit. An unmoving boy with blood all over his face. He noticed the bandages on the boy's legs and the mangled bicycle. He looked through the boy's bag for identification, but only found a greeting card, few cash, a gift box and some notes. He started to break down at the sight. He screamed uncontrollably.

As he was seated in the police jeep with hands cuffed, he saw the boy's father who fell on the floor crying. He started to weep. He looked up at the clouds and saw if there was any rain clouds to give rain that will hide all the tears.

His wife was sitting in the living room, staring at the TV. The child has slept. She was crushing the remote between her tender fingers. She wanted answer for the all the calls and messages he never replied to.

It is beautiful. I must say that it is a bit too short but it wants the reader to ask a lot of questions about this guy..great work

Lovely narration. I liked the way you juxtaposed the lives of two individuals - one who is about to reveal his love and the other who has love and everything but no time.

Quite neat and brief.

Joy always,
Susan
